DRAWING WITH ONE-POINT PERSPECTIVE
Alien City by Mr. Maholland
During the Renaissance, artists developed the system of drawing known as one-point perspective, to create the illusion of a three-dimensional space on a flat surface. Using a set of guiding principles, including a horizon line and vanishing point, students create an original landscape drawing.

Ancient & Primitive Art
The paintings discovered at the Lascaux caves in France are thought to be 17,300 years old! We will start here, and move around the world, looking at different ancient and primitive art forms, Then, students will make their own "cave paintings", aboriginal dot art, and paper masks.
POTTERY HANDBUILDING TECHNIQUES
Nearly every culture has a ceramic tradition of some sort. We will look at examples of different types of traditional ceramics and use these as a springboard for creating our own vessels. Techniques covered will be pinch, coil, and slab.
COLOR!

Color can really make artwork pop visually! Students learn about the color wheel and color terms--including analagous, complementary, tertiary, warm, and cool colors.

POP ART
Brad Darling by Roy Lichtenstein
Pop Art stormed the 1960's as the art world made fun of itself. Artists like Warhol, Lichtenstein, and Oldenburg took everyday objects and figures from pop culture and elevated them to high art. Students make a series of Warhol-inspired self-portraits, and explore Jr. High drama with a Lichtenstein-inspired illustration.
